AIP Management has acquired BW ESS for an undisclosed amount. The transaction sees AIP Management take ownership of BW ESS, a global energy storage owner-operator specializing in the development and operation of market-leading energy storage projects across multiple countries.
BW ESS has established a significant presence in the energy storage sector, particularly within the UK, Australia, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Sweden. The company’s portfolio includes a substantial pipeline of approximately 9.5GW, with over 500MWh of energy storage projects currently in operation and an additional 2.5GWh under construction. Known for its strategy to hold assets for the long term and its hands-on approach to value creation throughout the asset lifecycle, BW ESS leverages its affiliation with BW Group, benefiting from a global industry network and extensive experience in energy infrastructure investment, delivery, and operation.
This acquisition is strategic for AIP Management, providing immediate scale and deep operational expertise in the rapidly expanding energy storage market. By integrating BW ESS’s proven development capabilities, existing operational assets, and robust project pipeline, AIP Management is positioned to enhance its footprint in renewable energy infrastructure. The acquisition is expected to create synergies by combining AIP Management's investment and management strengths with BW ESS's specialized project execution and asset management proficiency.
The combined entity is set to become a more formidable force in the global energy storage landscape. This move positions AIP Management to capitalize further on the growing demand for flexible grid solutions and renewable energy integration, solidifying its commitment to sustainable infrastructure investments and expanding its capacity to deliver critical energy assets worldwide.
