Wholesale Building Materials

Holcim Australia has acquired Burdett Group, a family-owned manufacturer and supplier of building and landscape supplies, for an undisclosed amount. The deal transfers ownership of Burdett Group’s operations, including its fleet of more than 90 trucks and its decades-long supply network, to the Australian arm of the global building materials giant.

Burdett Group has supplied raw materials to the building and construction industries since 1972, operating for over 40 years as a family business. Its product range covers aggregates, sand, and landscape supplies, serving both commercial contractors and residential projects. Holcim Australia, a major producer of cement, concrete, and aggregates, will absorb Burdett’s distribution capabilities and its established customer base across the regions it serves.

The acquisition is strategic for Holcim Australia as it seeks to strengthen its downstream supply chain and expand its presence in the building and landscape materials segment. Burdett’s large truck fleet and long-standing supplier relationships offer Holcim a direct route to market for its own aggregate products, while also adding a complementary product line that Holcim does not currently produce at scale. For Burdett, the sale provides access to Holcim’s broader operational resources and financial backing, which could support further growth of its distribution network.

The combined entity is expected to operate with greater logistical efficiency, leveraging Burdett’s transport capacity to reduce delivery lead times for Holcim’s customers. Burdett’s existing management and workforce are anticipated to remain in place, preserving continuity for its client base. The transaction also aligns with Holcim’s broader strategy of vertical integration in the Australian construction materials market.

With the integration underway, the merged operation will focus on maintaining supply reliability while exploring opportunities to cross-sell products across both customer groups. The deal positions Holcim Australia to offer a wider range of materials through a single, well-connected distribution channel, though no specific financial targets or expansion plans have been disclosed.
