ARGO has acquired Bowen Coking Coal for an undisclosed amount. The transaction sees ARGO take full ownership of Bowen Coking Coal, a company that has established a significant hard coking coal position in Queensland’s world-class Bowen Basin. Bowen Coking Coal serves the increasing demand for high-quality steelmaking coal globally, leveraging its operational assets and development projects.

Bowen Coking Coal’s portfolio includes the flagship Burton Mine Complex near Moranbah, which encompasses multiple operations such as Ellensfield South and Plumtree North. These operations utilize a centralized Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) and train load out facility. The complex also includes co-located undeveloped open-cut projects, Lenton and Isaac, designed to provide production continuity. Additionally, Bowen holds the Broadmeadow East Mine and Bluff Mine, both currently under care and maintenance, alongside several coking coal development projects including Isaac River, Hillalong, Cooroorah, Carborough, and Comet Ridge. The company also maintains joint venture interests in Lilyvale and Mackenzie.

This acquisition is strategically significant for ARGO, providing immediate access to established coking coal production and a robust pipeline of development assets. By integrating Bowen Coking Coal’s operations, ARGO gains a diversified portfolio of high-quality steelmaking coal resources, enhancing its market position and securing supply in a critical global commodity sector. The transaction is expected to leverage Bowen’s experienced Board and Management team, along with its existing infrastructure and network, to maximize asset value and operational efficiency under ARGO’s ownership.

The combination of ARGO and Bowen Coking Coal is anticipated to create a stronger, more integrated entity with enhanced operational capabilities and a broader asset base. The unified company will be well-positioned to capitalize on the sustained global demand for high-quality steelmaking coal, driving future growth and delivering value through optimized production and resource development.
