Visa has acquired BioCatch, a provider of behavioral biometrics and fraud prevention technology, for $2.4 billion. The transaction, announced on Monday, brings the Tel Aviv-based company under Visa’s ownership as a standalone business unit.

BioCatch specializes in detecting financial crime by analyzing human behavior. Its platform collects over 3,000 anonymized data points, including keystroke dynamics, mouse movements, touchscreen interactions, and physical device attributes, as users engage with digital banking platforms. Machine-learning models then identify patterns that distinguish legitimate users from criminals. The company reports that more than 30 of the world’s largest 100 banks and 287 total financial institutions deploy its solutions, processing 16 billion user sessions monthly and protecting 532 million people globally.

For Visa, the acquisition strengthens its risk and fraud management portfolio. The payment network has been expanding its value-added services, and BioCatch’s behavioral intelligence complements Visa’s existing security tools. By integrating BioCatch’s data-driven approach, Visa aims to offer financial institutions a more comprehensive defense against account takeover, phishing, and other fraud schemes that have grown more sophisticated in recent years.

The deal is expected to close in Visa’s fiscal year 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. BioCatch will continue to operate under its current brand, with its team remaining in place. Visa has not disclosed specific integration plans beyond the standalone structure.

The combined entity will likely focus on scaling BioCatch’s technology across Visa’s global network of banks and merchants. With fraud threats evolving rapidly, the acquisition positions Visa to deliver deeper behavioral insights to its clients, while BioCatch gains access to a broader distribution channel. The outcome will depend on how effectively Visa integrates the technology without disrupting BioCatch’s existing customer relationships.
