Aviva, the UK-based insurance group, has acquired Aviva India, its joint venture in the Indian market, for an undisclosed amount. This transaction sees Aviva take full ownership of Aviva Life Insurance Company India Limited, which was previously a partnership between Dabur Invest Corp and Aviva International Holdings Limited. Aviva's association with India dates back to 1834, establishing a long-standing presence in the country's insurance sector.

Aviva India has focused on simplifying insurance products for customers, believing in creating offerings that deliver value. The company boasts a robust sales force of over 14,000 Financial Planning Advisers and has been a pioneer in innovative sales approaches, including Bancassurance and Financial Health Check services. It was also among the first to introduce contemporary unit-linked products in the market. With a wide distribution network spanning 122 branches across nearly 1,000 towns and cities, Aviva India has established a significant footprint, supported by a seasoned team of fund managers.

This acquisition is a strategic move for Aviva to consolidate its operations and deepen its commitment to the Indian insurance market. By taking complete control, Aviva aims to streamline decision-making, enhance operational efficiencies, and fully integrate Aviva India's established distribution channels and product development capabilities. The move is expected to allow Aviva to more directly leverage Aviva India's expertise in fund management and its strong customer relationships, further strengthening its position in a key growth market.

The full acquisition is anticipated to enable a more unified approach to strategy and product innovation, ensuring a consistent brand experience and accelerated growth. The combined entity is expected to continue its focus on delivering simple, valuable insurance solutions to customers across India. Furthermore, Aviva is expected to maintain and potentially expand Aviva India's corporate responsibility initiatives, such as the "Street to School" programme, which supports over 500,000 underprivileged children.
