EQT Group has acquired A-Train AB, the company behind the Arlanda Express airport rail link, for an undisclosed amount. A-Train AB owns and operates the Arlanda Express, which provides a dedicated rail service connecting Stockholm city center with Arlanda Airport. The company also planned and constructed the Arlanda rail link, subsequently leasing back the infrastructure through an exclusive concession that grants it operating rights until 2040.
A-Train AB operates on a commercial basis, distinguishing itself not merely as a transport provider but as an extension of its passengers’ flight experience. This approach emphasizes high levels of service, comfort, and consideration, mirroring airline standards. The company has received recognition for its operational excellence, including being named Transport Company of the Year in 2002. Furthermore, Arlanda Express was designated a Good Environmental Choice by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation in the same year, acknowledging its adherence to Europe’s most stringent ecolabelling requirements for transport companies, particularly regarding emissions and environmentally conscious maintenance.
This acquisition by EQT Group underscores the strategic value of established, high-quality infrastructure assets with strong environmental credentials. A-Train AB's long-term concession and its commitment to premium service and sustainability align with investment strategies focused on resilient, essential services. The acquisition is expected to leverage EQT's resources to further support A-Train AB's operational stability and continued delivery of its specialized service.
The combination aims to ensure the ongoing provision of a critical transport link for Arlanda Airport passengers. The new ownership is anticipated to maintain the high standards of service and environmental responsibility that Arlanda Express is known for, securing its position as a vital part of the region's transport infrastructure for the foreseeable future.
