Groupe MACH has acquired Alvéole, a Montreal-based company that integrates urban beekeeping and biodiversity programs into commercial real estate, for an undisclosed amount. The deal brings Alvéole under the umbrella of Groupe MACH, a privately held real estate firm with a portfolio spanning office, residential, and mixed-use properties. Alvéole will continue to operate its network of beehives and tenant workshops across more than 70 cities, while gaining access to Groupe MACH’s property management expertise.

Alvéole’s core offering centers on a digital platform called Aura, which tracks biodiversity impact and generates reports aligned with frameworks such as GRESB and TNFD. The company also holds B Corp certification and partners with organizations like ULI Greenprint. For Groupe MACH, the acquisition adds a specialized service layer that can be deployed across its own buildings, potentially strengthening tenant retention and sustainability credentials without relying on third-party vendors.

The strategic rationale lies in vertical integration. Groupe MACH can now offer in-house biodiversity programming to its tenants, while Alvéole gains a stable base of properties to expand its data collection and reporting capabilities. The deal also positions Groupe MACH to respond to growing investor demand for measurable environmental performance in real estate, particularly as reporting standards become more rigorous.

Financial terms were not disclosed, and no changes to Alvéole’s leadership or operational structure have been announced. The company will retain its brand and continue serving existing clients outside Groupe MACH’s portfolio. The acquisition is expected to close in the coming months, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Once completed, the combined entity will test whether a property owner can effectively scale biodiversity services as an internal function. Success will depend on whether Alvéole’s platform can deliver consistent, verifiable outcomes across a larger and more diverse set of buildings, and whether tenants respond to nature-based amenities as a differentiator in lease renewals.
